Become a member.

When you become a member, you help support the Stanley Area Historical Society's mission of preserving the history of the area by collecting historical artifacts and written materials, and by educating the public through displays and programs. We rely on your support to help care for and preserve the museum collection for future generations.

Annual membership levels include:

$10 — Single
$15 — Household
$25 — Associate
$50 — Affiliate

$100 — Century

By lending your time and talents to the museum, you can:

Help ensure local stories and historical materials are preserved and made accessible for future generations.
Gain unique skills and experience from archival management and research to public speaking and museum administration, which can be invaluable for personal growth or career development.

Examples of volunteer activities include:

Welcoming and assisting visitors through exhibits.
Answering questions and helping visitors with purchases or membership applications.
Guiding visitors with research projects.
Helping update museum exhibits.
Putting your computer, clerical and organization skills to use.
Assisting with hosting events at the museum.

Make a financial contribution.

Your donations are vital as they provide the essential operating funds needed to care for collections, including climate-controlled storage and conservation treatments for fragile artifacts. Additionally, these donations directly support public programming, educational outreach, and the creation of compelling exhibits that share local history with the community. For example, your generous gifts in the past allowed us to install a new furnace, make air conditioning updates, and enclose a wall — all costly building improvements.

Financial contributions can come from:

An extra donation in addition to your new or renewed membership
A one-time or regular gift via cash or check
A donation in memory of a loved one
An IRA or pension distribution
A charitable bequest in your will

You can designate whether your contribution is allocated for the building or trust fund, or if you'd like us to allocate it to the general fund to determine where it's most needed.

Contribute artifacts to our collection.

We welcome your donation of one or more artifacts to enhance our exhibits and keep history alive. Items that have a strong provenance (a detailed history of ownership and use) or a clear connection to our area are especially welcome. However, other items are accepted.

Artifacts accepted may include:

Documents
Photographs & visual media, such as postcards & tintypes
Printed ephemera, such as maps, pamphlets & posters
Organization memorabilia
Military & service items
Political & social history materials
Industrial & commercial items
Transportation materials
